Do you ever think of how weird it would be if Mickey Mouse’s name was actually Michael? And how weird it would be if one day Minnie called him “Michael Mouse” because she was upset with him? Because I think about it sometimes.
I have just been informed that Mickey’s full name is “Michael Theodore Mouse”, and that Minnie’s is “Minerva Mouse”. I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH THIS INFORMATION, BUT I FEEL LIKE I KNOW SOMETHING FORBIDDEN NOW???

No matter how desensitised folks get to comic book wackiness, the funny animals always seem to cross some sort of line. Like, tell them “the reason Deadpool is unkillable in the comics is because he’s been cursed with immortality for cockblocking Thanos in his quest to score with Death” or “Marvel once did a story where Spider-Man accidentally killed Mary Jane with radioactive jizz” and they’ll believe it – but hit them with “Howard the Duck was once one of Marvel’s most popular titles” or “Spider-Ham has been a recurring character since 1983″, and they’re like “oh, bullshit”.

Could be. It could also have just been a random gag – there’s no evidence that the writers of the Simpsons movie were aware of Spider-Ham at the time. Either way, it is true that Spider-Ham cannot possibly be a Simpsons reference, as he debuted in print six years before the first episode of The Simpsons aired.
